My life living at a Mountain Resort

What an adventure. It has taken me a long time to post this and I apologize. I am going to summarize our stay there and share some of our ups and downs of the whole adventure.

So the whole season of living at the mountain resort in our tiny house started in November and we moved back in April. So we were there living full time for 5 months.

It was quite the adjustment. We went from living in the woods to living in a campground styled mountain resort with neighbors all around us and virtually no private yard or any privacy whatsoever besides the inside of our home.

I didn’t take many pictures of the site, but here you can see some of the campers in the background

I was super nervous about being too loud. I really enjoy singing and laughing loud at all hours, so I was super worried and wondered a lot in the beginning if I was being annoying to our neighbors.

We were also worried about getting kicked out, because we were the only ones with a tiny house. Everyone else had normal campers with slide outs.

We had to leash our dogs for the most part. That was a hard adjustment because we were so use to letting them run free. Luckily it wasn’t much of a problem and we got use to it

The only picture I got of them on leashes… even though we are not holding them 😂

I was a little hesitant on the bathroom situation as well. There was just a heated, shared bathhouse for showers and for going number two.

As time went on I realized that we did not share walls with our neighbors, so unless they were right up against our home, they couldn’t hear us. So my fears slowly diminished, thankfully. Anxiety is never a good time…

Our fear of being kicked out also slowly went away when the maintenance guys were also right there ready to plow for us. With no complaints whatsoever.

The bathroom situation? Easy as pie! We got exercise each time we had to go number two. I had one bad moment of food poisoning, where I needed to SPRINT to the bathroom and I thought I was going to faint. It was only 20 degrees or less outside and I almost forgot to put my jacket AND boots on. What a nightmare that was. But that was only one night in the whole 5 months and it is kind of funny to look back on.

We soon learned that the whole mountain was our yard. How exciting!? We literally had hiking trails surrounding us. We had a big open field just a little walk away. I would leash the dogs until I got to a trail and then we had the whole hiking trail to ourselves. It was pretty great. I already miss the vast trails and endless woods. Even though we have woods in our woods now, (lol of course we have woods in the woods) but our woods are not mountains, so really, I miss the mountains. But we do have the river now!

Anyway, back to the mountain resort. We loved being able to ski and snowboard in the backyard. Adam spent most of his time there. I tried to learn some freestyle, since he likes the park and doing tricks, I thought I should maybe try some park too. Next season I would really like to do more park and build my confidence.

We spent Christmas there at the resort. Adam set up silly little branch as a tree. We set up lights outside. It felt nice. We loved being snowed in there.

One big advantage we had over the other campers was the wood stove. We also had free electricity (it was included in the rent) and rent came to about $250 a month. So wow, what a deal right? Honestly I can’t think of many people paying rent that low. Of course it comes with the downsides which I kind of stated above. But really, I find more joy in this lifestyle and the joy outweighs the flaws.

Adam got me a sled for Christmas. Basically the best gift ever at a mountain resort. Sledding is a huge ecotherapy for me. I literally cant help but smile while sledding. I had some really down, winter blues moments there. I had to come to my own website for inspiration. What did I find here? Sledding is really good ecotherapy in the winter when you have the winter blues!!

We also got a gimble for our GoPro. If you don’t know what a gimble is, It is basically an image stabilizer so the video looks as if it is floating. It makes things smooth, not bumpy. So we played around with that, we had a whole day of playing with the gimble while playing on our sleds. Highly recommend that for couples.

So all in all we had a wonderful, eventful, full of feelings adventure here at the resort. We moved back to our spot in the woods, actually, we are at a different spot, same plot of land just further up the driveway in a more open spot. We had a mold problem when we were deeper in the woods, closer to the river, but that is a whole other story. I’ll write more posts in the future about our new gimble and update you on some other cool projects we have been working on.

Back to our spot

Thank you for reading! Now off to the woods!!
